Lynn-Chi Nguyen

Class of 2021

Rice University, Class of '25

Lynn-Chi spent the summer of 2021 conducting research with the LSU Health Sciences Center's School of Medicine for a paid summer research internship for undergraduate students. Along with 25 students from around the country in total, Lynn-Chi is one of twelve undergraduate and medical students chosen to participate in the National Institutes of Health's National Cancer Center (NIH-NCI) Cancer Research Education Program (CREP), which is an 8-week fellowship for students in New Orleans and Tampa to study cancer and health disparities. She received NIH funding for her project through the program. Lynn-Chi wrote, "I am doing a deeper dive into my senior mentorship research! I am using microRNA as a biomarker to view triple-negative breast cancer disparities. I ended up switching gears a few weeks into the summer for my final project; it's now called "Investigating MicroRNAs as a Biomarker for Analyzing Racial and Gender Disparities in B-cell ALL Patients."

Alongside her Health Sciences major at Rice, Lynn-Chi is eager to learn more about medicine through a humanities lens with her Neuroscience and Medical Humanities minor.

“Though I am currently keeping an open mind as to what in medicine I specifically want to pursue, I am ready to use the education I gained at McGehee and will gain at Rice to provide a helping hand and expand research for marginalized groups-- such as women and minorities-- hopefully as a practicing physician one day.”
