Darian Harris

Class of 2012

Infectious Disease Epidemiologist

Harris attended Xavier University of Louisiana where she was a member of the women’s volleyball team and earned her Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology. She obtained her Master of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology from LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans. She worked as the Emergency Medicine Research Coordinator at University Medical Center in New Orleans.

With a desire to serve her community and have a greater impact in public health, Darian transitioned to the Louisiana Department of Health where she currently works as an Infectious Disease epidemiologist. She has been a member of the state’s data analytics team during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading both COVID-19 mortality and health disparities teams. Although challenging, the experience has been invaluable and rewarding for her to provide data analytics for the state legislature to use for public health action.
