Class of 1975

Pathologist, Medical Director of Research Woman's Hospital, Chief of Cancer Services, Woman's Hospital, Medical Director of Office of Public Health State Laboratory

Beverly received a degree in microbiology from LSU, attended Tulane University Medical School and completed a residency in pathology at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She joined the Pathology Group of Louisiana, one of the largest independent pathology practices in the region in 1987 where she was the only female in a group of 12 men.  She was appointed the Medical Director of Woman's Hospital in 1992 and remained medical director there for 30 years until she passed the baton this year to a younger associate.  Beverly started the Department of Research at Woman's Hospital in 1994. Her first research project was a study looking at inherited breast and ovarian cancer with one of the pioneers in genetics, Dr. Mary Claire King. Her other area of interest in research includes the role of insulin resistance in diseases that affect the health of women. Beverly continues to oversee the research at Woman's, overseeing approximately 40 active research studies a year. Even though research is a passion of hers, Beverly spends most of her day practicing pathology. She has special expertise in breast, gyn, placental, and molecular pathology.  Beverly's husband is Bayne Dickinson, her high school sweetheart, who is an architect. She has two lovely children, William, an internal medicine physician and Laura who is a licensed clinical social worker.
