Lucille Fuller

College Choice: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
College Major:
 Computer Engineering

Lucille Fuller is headed to MIT for college and it is no surprise! Between her academics and her outside work during her junior and senior years, she is destined for success. During her junior year, Lucille spent time at UNO and observed between 200-1000 files daily, all containing data recorded on hydrophones attached to buoys in the Gulf of Mexico. She “combed through this data using the program Banshee in order to identify sperm whale clicks with the ultimate end goal of creating a catalog capable of identifying individual sperm whales by their clicks, and she also presented on research at Innovate UNO that fall.” This year she spent some of her extracurricular hours at Tulane’s lab where she shadowed a graduate student, assisting as needed.

To further enrich McGehee’s curriculum, Lucille has taken additional courses from One Schoolhouse, McGehee’s online academy partner. These include Introduction to Computer Science, AP Computer Science, and 12th Grade Advanced Computer Science: Game Design and Engineering. All the while, Lucille was engaged in numerous other activities at school, Mock Trial, Melange and Choir name just a few.

She writes, “McGehee has helped me a lot with my analytical writing. I have also become more eloquent when speaking and more confident too.”

And when it comes to her favorite tradition, Lucille’s is the Senior Song. Lucille said, “It was really emotional to look up and sing to my class, especially because I feel like a lot of our songs fit really well so it was just an overall really emotional but incredibly memorable experience.”

We can’t wait to see where Lucille lands!
