Joei will attend University of Pennsylvania next fall and said she had a tough time making a decision since her top four schools offered her full tuition. She wrote, “The work life balance, pre-med reputation, and overall school life influenced my decision”.

Student Body President, Letter Sweater and Citizenship Girl, President of Jumpers and Skirts, and athlete, name just several of Joei Lee’s leadership roles, activities, and honors. She has also represented McGehee at a Student Diversity Leadership Conference, served as a Student Ambassador and been a Peer Support Leader. Joei reflected on her time at McGehee. “I think McGehee has taught me how to write and advocate for myself both in the classroom and outside of it. And, “I definitely would say Coach Val has been one of my biggest inspirations during my time at McGehee. She has taught me so much about myself.”

Her favorite tradition, Joei commented, “is definitely when the school gets buses to bring everyone to the state volleyball tournament. I love the display of school spirit and although I have not partaken in the cheering since middle school, on the court it makes me so proud to be representing our HAWKS!!”

Joei reflected, “I am proud to say that I have left McGehee a better place than I have found it, not just for the girls of color but for our community as a whole.”

Congratulations and best of luck to you at Penn, Joei!
