Hope LeBlanc

College Choice: University of Kentucky
College Major: Communication Sciences and Disorders

Hope LeBlanc will attend her first choice college, University of Kentucky, with the Bluegrass Spirit Scholarship. She elaborated on her choice, “The reason I have decided to go to the University of Kentucky is because I think it’s a great opportunity to get out of Louisiana and meet new people from a different state that a lot of people from Louisiana don’t attend. Another thing that influenced my decision is how pretty Kentucky is and the people are very nice.”

As a junior, Hope was named a Citizenship Girl, one of the highest honors bestowed upon McGehee students. This award is voted on by classmates and faculty. She has also shined as Captain of the Varsity Softball team for the last two years and as a peer support leader. About her years at McGehee, she wrote, “I think McGehee has prepared me for my future by teaching me how to be a leader by standing up for myself and doing new things. It also prepared me by showing me how to work independently and with other people. I have loved the small environment because it has allowed our school to bond very well and easily socialize with people outside of your own grade. I have also been very thankful for the freedom I have been given at McGehee because without a teacher constantly watching over me and telling me what to do has taught me how to manage my work and figure out the best way I learn.”

Hope praises Carolyn Thompson as the teacher who has been most special to her, having served as her advisor throughout upper school, as well as her history teacher in 11th and 12th grades. Hope elaborated, “Ms. Thompson was so welcoming to me, has the best energy and knows how to cheer people up. I have been very inspired by her passion for history as well as the effort she puts in to learn all of her students' potential and teach them how to feel comfortable enough to voice their opinions. I have always appreciated how considerate she is with all the different ways people learn and she has always done her best to make sure every student learns in the way that’s best for them. In the beginning of high school I had a difficult time speaking up during classes by asking questions and contributing to discussions. In 11th grade, Ms. Thompson was able to push me to become more of a leader and speak with confidence in and outside of school.”

Hope cannot wait to graduate in pink, her favorite McGehee tradition.
