Camille burkey

College Choice: Chapman University
College Major: Acting

Camille Burkey joined the class as a freshman, splitting her time between McGehee and NOCCA’s performing arts program. Serving as a student ambassador for both McGehee and NOCCA, she undoubtedly has enthusiasm, spirit, and passion for both places. Immersed in the arts for many years, Camille has participated in several creative intensives, most recently at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Drama Intensive. There she engaged in three weeks that included full days of classes and daily evening workshops. She took dance, singing, film acting, and monologue preparation classes, and the intensive concluded with a showcase. She is also an enthusiastic volunteer and some of her community service work has taken place at Second Harvest, Wilderness Adventures, and Sugar Roots Farm, where for the last three summers she volunteered at this nonprofit farm feeding and cleaning the animals as well as serving as a camp counselor for children aged 3-6.

Camille credits McGehee for her confidence, “I think that the biggest way that McGehee has prepared me for college is by building my confidence as a student. The welcoming and supportive community at McGehee creates a learning environment that values students' ideas. The freedom I have felt to be vulnerable in the classroom has allowed me to reach my full potential as a student."

With a broad range of fantastic colleges and performing arts programs to choose from, Camille settled on Chapman University in California, ranked #6 among all film production schools in the country.
