Position Description:
The Louise S. McGehee School is now accepting applications for a dedicated, experienced, and dynamic elementary educator who enthusiastically invests him or herself in all aspects of the education process and the school-wide community. Qualified candidates will possess an educational background in elementary education and will have at least two years of classroom teaching experience, ideally in the lower elementary grades at an all-girls or independent school setting. A master’s degree in education is preferred.

Essential Functions: 

  • Planning and Implementing age-appropriate lessons in Math and Language Arts.  
  • Presenting curriculum and material in an engaging manner.
  • Working closely with the Grade Level team to make sure instructional goals are met. 
  • Collaborating with co-curricular teachers to enhance cross-curricular projects across the grade level.
  • Setting clear expectations for students.
  • Communicating regularly and appropriately with the students, parents, and division head about student academic and social progress.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive curriculum guide.
  • Fulfilling supervisory duties outside the classroom.
  • Attending and contributing at grade level, department, division, and faculty meetings.
  • Acting as a flexible and collaborative member of the community whose work expands beyond the classroom to enhance the student experience at the school.
  • Modeling a mindset of lifelong learning and the willingness to take risks that serve as growth opportunities.
  • Fostering an open, inclusive learning environment that supports all students and their families through word, action, curriculum, and teaching strategies.

Requirements

Qualifications/Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A master’s degree in education is preferred.
  • Have at least two years of classroom teaching experience.
  • A passion for teaching children.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate.
  • Regularly uses close and distance vision, including working at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently required to move around the office/classroom; works at a desk for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff and community members. 
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to reach, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
