Message From The Head

At McGehee’s Little Gate we believe that children learn best through play. We are a co-educational, Reggio inspired preschool program for children, ages one to three years old. Our students come to school ready to explore, create, wonder, experiment and most importantly play.

Little Gate is an innovative and progressive preschool that constantly revisits and challenges the best practices for our children and teachers. We believe strongly in faculty professional development as well as learning alongside our students. We promote and support problem solving, critical thinking, creative exploration, peer collaboration and communication in the classroom and on the playground while monitoring milestones and development.

Little Gate students engage in tinkering, art, music, gross motor play, and story play. They play outside daily in one of the most beautiful and interactive butterfly gardens in the city. “Little Gaters” ride bikes, make mud pies, garden, climb the hills and bridges and engage in social play with friends. We maintain small class sizes with two lead teachers as well as several support and enrichment teachers.

We value community that we intentionally weave into our culture. We value each individual family as an important partner in cultivating the wonder, excitement and growth of our children and their development.

Of course the best way to experience our philosophy and program is through the playful eyes of our children with a personal visit. We invite you to schedule a tour of our campus. Please call the Admission office at 504-934-4733 to schedule your tour—nothing compares to a visit to our extraordinary campus!
