Scarlett Fox

College Choice: University of Georgia
College Major: Political Science

This 14-Year Club member tapped into her leadership potential, serving as Student Body Vice President in 12th Grade, Class President in 10th Grade, and additional roles, such as student ambassador and peer support leader, among others. Scarlett Fox has a long list of academic and athletic accomplishments and will certainly make her mark at college.

She commented, “McGehee has helped me find my voice and my confidence. Our curriculum teaches students how to be assertive in a learning environment and how to advocate for yourself which is a quality I have seen a lot of young women struggle with. At McGehee we also collaborate with others a lot, and I've learned how to effectively and patiently collaborate with my peers. I think that I will have an easier transition to a college learning environment because we have been learning and writing at a college level for the past year. As well, McGehee has helped teach me how to enter a new environment confidently.”

She mentions Ms. Westfall as an inspirational teacher, remarking, “Beginning with her freshman year, Ms. Westfall was a great inspiration for my learning and education. She essentially taught me how to write a well formed argument for a paper, and has provided me with such a strong base that has aided my writing tremendously. I have worked harder because I've wanted to be able to demonstrate my skills and progress to her. Ms. Thompson, my AP Government teacher, inspired me to pursue a field in politics because she taught in a really fun and intriguing way. She was able to foster a student's skills and bring out the best in them. I am so glad I was able to be taught by her before she moved away.”

Scarlett’s favorite traditions at McGehee are May Day and Big Sis/Little Sis. She wrote, “ I have loved making a bond with my little sis over the past two years, and really feel that this tradition brings our McGehee community so much closer. May Day takes a lot of hard work and effort, so I am excited to be able to enjoy seeing the production this year and be on the receiving end. It will be fun to see how our little sisters portray us!”

When she visited the University of Georgia, Scarlett loved the atmosphere of the campus and Athens, GA and she feels ready to transition to a larger community after being at a small school all these years.
