ANNA SCHMIDT

College Choice: University of Virginia, Early Decision
College Major: Kinesiology

Anna Schmidt was accepted (early decision) to UVA where she is set to attend this fall. She commented, “I am attending UVA because I really like the community that it has as well as their Kinesiology program, which is small and reminds me of McGehee in a small class aspect, even though UVA is a big school.”

This member of the 14 Year Club has received numerous academic and athletic honors, and has been involved in community service work as well, leading a variety of clubs and organizations, always with great enthusiasm.

Anna remarked, “I have absolutely loved my time at McGehee and I would not change the past 14 years for anything. My time here has shaped me into who I am today and McGehee has definitely given me the leadership skills that I need. Being immersed in a small all girl environment, I have been able to find my voice and learn the power of it and will be able to use it throughout my future. Alongside that, McGehee’s small classroom environment has taught me how to really connect with my teachers and how to build relationships that have shaped my years at McGehee.”

When asked about influential faculty members, she had this to say. “I  have really been able to build amazing relationships with both Dr. Cresson and Ms. Thompson, although all of my teachers have had a really large impact on my education and my time at McGehee. Dr. Cresson and former faculty member, Ms. Thompson really advocated for me along by helping me throughout high school, guiding me towards where I am today.”

Anna’s passion for sports is evident with her participation and leadership on the cross country, soccer team, and track & field team. She wrote, “I have absolutely loved participating in sports at McGehee and being able to build strong relationships with my teammates and coaches.” Anna received her letter sweater, as a freshman, the highest honor bestowed on a McGehee athlete.

She also participated in McGehee’s Senior Mentorship program, producing a year-long independent research project that focused on banned substances in athletics. She will graduate with distinction in Science.

As for her favorite McGehee tradition, it’s Spirit Day/Week for Anna. She stated, “I love being able to compete with the whole school in different games in the most fun ways. Dressing up all week is always so much fun and playing all of the games on Friday is the best part!”
