Anna Kidd

College Choice: Tulane
College Major: Linguistics

Anna Kidd joined McGehee’s Class of 2024 as a 9th Grader and quickly found ways to become involved in the school community.  She joined the Diversity Club her freshman year, and commented, “I’ve made many contributions to the club and have taken pride in being a longtime member. Some of my work includes  showcasing informative presentations at assemblies, creating posters and hanging them around campus, contributing to informative emails sent out to every high school student, and helping to create school-wide games and interactive activities.”

For many years, Anna Kidd has enjoyed a particular affinity for language learning. Throughout the 10th to 12th grade, she pursued this interest, primarily through self-teaching. Initially drawn to Russian, Anna employed various methods like note-taking and conversational practice. This structured approach led her to tangible progress and spurred her to also explore German, at a beginner stage. Beyond linguistic skills, this pursuit provided valuable insights into effective study techniques.  Anna wrote, “Building my knowledge on a subject I’m passionate about and fulfilling myself intellectually has become an integral part of how I spend my time outside of school, and I’m very excited to find out how my newfound knowledge will help me in the future.” Anna’s other talents and interests outside of school include crocheting and powerlifting.

Anna heads to Tulane University in the fall and commented that she feels well prepared for college. “The work we do at McGehee seems similar to college-level work, with our 20 page research paper, and discussion-based classes.”
