The Class of 2025 outdid themselves with their performance!
The 6th graders reached for their dreams in their performance “McGehee Girls Dream!” Along with their Performing Arts and 6th Grade teachers the girls engaged in workshops to find answers to the essential question, "How do humans chase their dreams?" These initial conversations and brainstorming sessions planted the seed for their performance today. To answer this question, students created art with artist statements or wrote and performed scenes, songs, raps and TED talks. 6th graders also worked to a high level of performance on a variety of songs and choreography with lyrics that also seemingly reach for answers to the essential question. These songs included the jazz standard, Fly Me to the Moon, the 90s classic by Des'ree, Gotta Be, Even If It Breaks Your Heart by the Eli Young Band, "Defying Gravity" from the Stephen Schwartz Musical Wicked, and a "dreamy rewrite" of the NSYNC song, It's Gonna Be Me. The scenes and music helped create a wonderful performance, allowing our girls to take risks and experience the drive it takes to follow through on a dream.
