Louise S. McGehee School, a private independent all-girls school for Pre-K through grade 12 is seeking a part-time (.25X) Upper School history teacher to teach one section of Honors US History (10th grade).
Honors United States History encompasses a thematic and chronological approach from the arrival of the Native Americans to the present day. The major themes of the course include American ideals and national identity, evolution of government, foreign policy, technology and economy, culture, and geography. The course emphasizes the importance of historical thinking and clear communication skills. Students are expected to explore the same processes a professional historian utilizes: analyzing primary and secondary sources, using content knowledge to make connections across time periods, assessing causation, as well as continuity and change. The course encourages students to develop a sound historical argument and respond in writing and create presentations to examine critical questions of United States’ history. McGehee seeks qualified applicants who have earned a Masters degree, who have experience teaching in grades 9-12, and whose pedagogy emphasizes student inquiry and discovery through Socratic or Harkness-style discussion.
This long-term leave replacement commences immediately and will continue through the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year.
