Senior Serves as Panelist, Delegate at the UN 65th Commission Status of Women
Lynn-Chi Nguyen ‘21 spent time over the last several weeks as a delegate to the United Nation's 65th Commission Status of Women. She also was named a panelist for a panel titled, “Girls, Politics, and Power: A Conversation with Young Activists."
The group answered questions and created conversation about how to include more teenagers and young women in the UN’s discussions and activism. Delegates participated in virtual sessions hosted by other non-profit organizations, as well as in virtual meetings of UN member states and UN agencies. This year’s priority theme set by UN Women was “Women’s full and effective participation and decision making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
Following a competitive application process, both Lynn-Chi and classmate Elizabeth Drennan were selected to attend the conference last year, but due to the pandemic the conference was postponed and became a virtual gathering. Lynn-Chi’s homework as a delegate is to create an outcome project based on all the knowledge she acquired as a participant.
