Habitat for Humanity

Service with lots of smiles!
Over the summer, the juniors read Evicted: Poverty and Profitin the American City by Matthew Desmond, which challenged them to consider the meaning of a home and to identify the many barriers preventing individuals from obtaining affordable housing. It was an excellent foundation for their work with Habitat for Humanity last Friday.   The junior class and chaperones investigated housing at the local level as they toured the ReStore Center, witnessed the impact of the Musician's Village, and considered the mission and function of NOAHH. They spent the majority of the day engaged in construction tasks on two Habitat homes in the lower 9th ward: priming, painting, and installing insulation and siding!
