This quarter McGehee juniors have been immersed in the legislative jungle of their Model Congress project. Each student has crafted a political persona for herself. They have shadowed a Member of Congress. They have designed congressional websites. They have researched their issues extensively and drafted original bills proposing constitutional solutions to the problems they have identified. Along the way, they have become effective advocates both in the classroom and online. Now they are ready to get their bills onto the agenda and debate. On Wednesday, the Speaker of the House called the House to order and kicked off the legislative session. Here was the first bill on the docket. https://youtu.be/-4ql3nskSgM
By the conclusion of this project, these girls will be well versed in our essential question: how does our national legislature take public concerns and turn them into public policy?
