Jeanné Appelget Named Upper School Head

McGehee names new Upper School Head.
Following a national search, Jeanné Appelget has been named Head of the Upper School.

Jeanné has been at Castilleja School in California since 2003. Castilleja is a non-denominational, 6th-12th grade girls’ school in the San Francisco Bay area. In her time at Castilleja, Jeanné taught science courses across middle and upper school including Biology, Climate Change, Human Physiology, and middle school science. Jeanné has been the chair of the science department for most of her time at Castilleja.

Jeanné has a strong background in teaching and learning. She has led the school’s transition from AP Science courses to Advanced Topics in science and has worked to align science curriculum across divisions. In addition, Jeanné has developed an effective teacher evaluation model at Castilleja and has mentored new teachers. She has been an advisor for students in both middle and upper school grade levels, has chaperoned student trips, and partnered with colleagues to teach interdisciplinary courses.

Prior to Castilleja, Jeanné taught math and science at Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas and at Summit School, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She earned a Women in Leadership Certificate from Cornell University and her MS and BS in Biology from Appalachian State University in North Carolina.
