Melanie Parent Investment Manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana McGehee Class of 2008
The path to Melanie’s successful career in finance and commitment to community service began when she was a student at McGehee. Not only did McGehee provide her with a strong education, it provided her a strong community of women who helped each other succeed in their professional and personal lives. After graduating from Howard University, alongside classmates Ayanna Harley and Linzi Jack, Melanie earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. She then returned to New Orleans to establish her career and contribute to the economic growth of her hometown. Through a multitude of city programs, she began her career at a local financial consulting firm. She is currently an Investment Manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, where she assists in managing the investment portfolio and is also studying for her Master’s in Business Administration.
Melanie says, “McGehee taught me the importance of giving back to the community and helped me understand to whom much is given, much is required. McGehee also taught me the political process and more importantly showed me how to take action. One of our class’s most important achievements was fighting for New Orleans’ students at the U.S. Capitol after Katrina. I am most thankful for the relationships and bonds created with my sisters at McGehee. The Class of 2008 is still very close; McGehee truly gave me sisters for a lifetime. The environment is supportive and pushed us to be courageous and limitless. Our class quote was, “The limit does not exist.” Without this foundation, I would not be where I am today. McGehee provided the fundamentals to be a good person and a courageous leader during difficult times. At McGehee we were challenged to be our authentic selves, unapologetically, and to find our voices.”
