College Choice: University of Richmond

Graduating with a Distinction in French
Mentorship Title: "Stages through the Ages: The Evolution of French Theater"

Martha Pinney is quite the Francophile and was selected to represent Joan of Arc in the 2018 New Orleans parade. She competed against other students with interviews in French and English and was chosen based on her passion for Joan of Arc, service, French proficiency, and dedication to New Orleans culture. Martha’s year long mentorship focused on the evolution of French Theater and she will graduate from McGehee with a Distinction in French. Martha describes her school experience, “I loved my sense of independence at McGehee. For example, I am so grateful that I was able to pursue my passion of theater at NOCCA while getting stellar academics at McGehee.” When it comes to an inspirational teacher, she had this to say, “I have a lot of teachers that I have loved throughout the years. In particular, Mr. Waguespack has been my math teacher since 5th grade and his patience with me as well as his amazing teaching style have made me love a subject that is sometimes hard to love.”
