Performing Arts

Our Performing Arts program celebrates the musician, actress and dancer in every child.

Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade students strive for success in general music classes that weave vocal music, music literacy and performance skills together through an innovative and comprehensive spiral curriculum. Upper School Performing Arts celebrates voice through our Vocal/Choral Program in addition to the theatre electives and performances that are offered. Throughout all the grades, we also emphasize the historical, social and cultural impact of music with our students. Instrumental opportunities are also a part of a McGehee girl’s Performing Arts education.

Each grade participates in a grade level performance that develops not only their performing arts skills and talents but also general stage presence and confidence. Many of the grade level performances are cross-curricular experiences with classroom teachers.

“Music, Theatre and Dance at McGehee are taught in a nurturing way to inspire students to be the best version of themselves. Through collaboration, students learn life skills like empathy, imagination, discipline and problem solving. Students feel such a sense of pride when they can see what they can do both on stage and off!”

FRANNIE BUCHTEL, PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT CHAIR, MIDDLE SCHOOL DRAMA TEACHER, SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR
