Upper School

Engaged. Passionate. Articulate. Confident. Creative. Independent. Thoughtful.

These are the words the McGehee Upper School faculty uses to describe their students. McGehee’s college acceptance records demonstrate the high academic achievement of our students. Our high school profile details the requirements for graduation, mentorships and internships, as well as Honors and AP courses available to students. What is harder to see, less tangible, are the relationships that develop between faculty and students, working and learning relationships designed to bring out the best in each student.

One of the great advantages of a McGehee education is our ability to educate the individual girl. Our curriculum is rigorous, our student/teacher ratio is low and our approach is collaborative. As a result the McGehee graduate possesses something more than good grades and test scores: she has had the opportunity to work closely with her teachers who guide her as she pursues her scholastic interests in greater depth, sharpens her critical thinking skills, articulates and defends her ideas, and interacts with her community in a thoughtful and respectful manner.

Our faculty is dedicated and passionate about educating your daughters in the process of preparing them for college. The goal of the Upper School is to further the McGehee mission and to ensure students go out into the world as engaged…passionate…articulate…confident…independent…thoughtful lifelong learners.

Jolayne Gotzkowsky, Upper School Head

As Head of the Upper School, I love working with our girls on an individual basis. It is exciting to watch students as they grow intellectually and socially and begin to understand the importance of taking ownership of who they are and what they do. McGehee provides an environment that is very conducive to this process.
