Student Organizations
Upper School Honor Organizations, Committees & Clubs
National Honor Society
Selection of juniors and seniors into NHS is based upon leadership, service, character and scholarship. To be eligible for membership, a student must have maintained for all previous high school semesters a cumulative average of at least 3.5. Eligible students are selected by approval of the Upper School faculty and administration. NHS members are involved in service to the School and community.
Beta Club
Juniors and seniors who have a cumulative academic average of 3.0 or higher are considered for membership. Selection by the faculty is further based upon leadership potential, good citizenship and service to McGehee and the community.
Citizenship Girls
Selection into this group is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors who are nominated by their class based upon their service and commitment to McGehee. A vote by the current Citizenship Girls and by the faculty follows the initial nomination. A student selected has given her best to McGehee and to her the School gives its highest honor.
Student Council
Members of the Student Council include the Student Council President, the Student Council Vice President, the Student Body President, and two elected representatives from each of the four classes. Its duties are to deal with any infringement of the Honor Code, to educate students and faculty about the Honor Code, and to promote the Honor Code.
Executive Committee
Members of this committee are the Student Body President, Student Body Vice President, the four class presidents, and two elected members-at-large from each of the four classes. There are two faculty representatives. The Executive Committee proposes bills to the Student Body, makes a calendar for the school year, makes recommendations to change school policy, develops and implements projects (both service and fund-raising), promotes facutly/student rapport, plans student activities, and apportions the budget of the student body.
Peer Support
Led by trained eleventh and twelfth graders who serve as Peer Support leaders, students in the eighth and ninth grades share their feelings, examine their opinions and values and interact with their classmates.
Mu Alpha Theta
Mu Alpha Theta is a mathematics club in which students compete in local and state competitions.
Mock Trial
The Mock Trial team prepares a case (both prosecution/plaintiff and defense) for competition at the regional competition.
Diversity Club
Diversity Club is open to any student who is interested in promoting an inclusive environment on the McGehee campus. The Diversity Club plans special events and assemblies, and takes a key role in planning Multicultural Day.
Banner Patch Committee
Beginning in fifth grade, each class receives its banner, usually in the color of the class that most recently graduated. Felt patches symbolizing class achievement, cooperation and participation are created by the committee and added to their class banner. Banners are on display in the auditorium.

National Junior Honor Society
Selection of members into the NJHS is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Candidates must have a scholastic average of 3.5 at the end of their 8th or 9th grade year. Only grades in English, Math, History, Science, and Foreign Language are averaged.
Organizations and Committees
Ahtletic Teams - All students are eligible to participate in a variety of interschool and intraschool sports. Members of each class are divided into two teams, Reds and Greys.
Young Singers - Choir for all students 5th -6th Grade. Young singers perform at many special functions.
Les Petites Chanteuses - A select vocal performance group of students in grades 5-8 are chosen by audition. The group performs at various community functions, especially duing the holiday season. Chanteuses meets after school on Thursdays.
Executive Committee - This committee, with the Student Body President as Chair, consists of the Student Body Vice President, the four class chairpersons and the ex-officio faculty advisors. The Executive Committee proposes rules and plans activities for the Middle School Student Body.
Student/Faculty Committee - This committee is made up of two elected representatives from each class, the Student Body President, the Student Body Vice-President as Chair, and faculty advisors. The Student/Faculty Committee considers suggestions from the classes and then makes recommendations to the appropriate person(s) or to the Executive Committee.
Banner Patch Committee - This committee creates banner patches for the class banners. it is composed of one member from each of the four classes and the members may volunteer or be elected by their classmates if a number wish to serve. The 8th grade member serves as chair.
In the Middle - The Middle School newspaper, In the Middle, is open to all students in grades 5-8.
Science Club - Open to all students grades 5-8.
Math Club - Open to all students grades 5-8.
Tween Angels - Internet safety national organization for grades 7 and 8.
