Alumnae Challenge Their Classes To Break Records

In April, McGehee Alumnae Annual Giving received two challenge grants to encourage participation in Annual Giving.

The Class of 1976 received an anonymous challenge grant to increase its 18% participation. The challenge grant matches $100 per contributing member of the Class of 1976, for a maximum match of $2,000. Since the announcement of this challenge grant, the Class of 1976's participation has increased to 24% and counting.

The enthusiasm of McGehee alumnae is inspiring, and the Class of 2008 also joined the cause with its own challenge grant. In this instance, the grant will match each $20.08 given by a '08 graduate. To date, the class' participation has grown to 13%.

The average alumnae annual giving participation rate among girls' schools is 23%. At McGehee, it is 35%. With just 99 more gifts, McGehee Alumnae Annual Giving will achieve 40% participation for the first time. These two challenge grants are vital to our success. We share these numbers because they are a measurable result of the enthusiasm and belief alumnae have in McGehee.

Why is Annual Giving so important? Annual gifts allow us to keep tuition as reasonably priced as possible without affecting the quality of a McGehee education. We take great care to safeguard our finances and be efficient stewards of our budget, but at the same time are unwavering in our belief that the quality of the educational program and the traditions offered by McGehee's should not be compromised. Each McGehee girl deserves the nurturing environment for which McGehee is acclaimed. This means we take great care to cultivate and retain our faculty and our families. After all, it is the people--students, faculty, and parents--that make the McGehee experience one of a kind. Competitive tuition and faculty salaries allow us to provide for our community.
