Instrumental Program

Piano, violin, viola, cello & flute

The Music Department at the Louise S. McGehee School has been a hallmark of the McGehee experience, earning the school and students copious awards in district, state and regional competitions throughout the school's history. Long known for our distinguished choral program including various choirs, Ensemble and a Capella group, the music department has greatly expanded its repertoire, adding instruction in flute, violin, viola, and cello base.

Another bonus is that these lessons are free to McGehee students. Students are expected to incur any expenses for the instruments (purchase or rental) and other materials such as lesson books and wire music stands. The after school lessons are free, but there is one catch: Commitment.

A high level of commitment is expected of the students entering this program. And in return, a high level of commitment and quality instruction is offered by the instructors

Girls in grades 4-8 can take beginning flute and string classes during the school year. There is also a Middle School string ensemble which will cultivate the sense of team, as well as to develop individual skills.

Incorporating movement, musical theater, and instruments into the curriculum, the department is interested in developing the whole musician. "All of the work we do in Lower School and Middle School helps to build our students so when they go into high school they are more confident performers. Whether we have students who are interested in the music industry, musical performance, music in the community, or musical theater, we have the program to pique their interest so they stay involved in music for the rest of their lives. Whether as a performer or audience member or behind the scenes in stage production, music enhances our lives."
